Program:
Ed Wojnowski, Newmarket Town Administrator
Ed gave a short history of Newmarket from the days of King George I to the present. Some of the areas that he highlighted were the change in style of government from 5 Selectmen to a 7 person council in 1990. Newmarket self-designed their government and has continued the Town Meeting for the annual budget decision covering town and school needs.
He spoke of the challenges of the budget with the recent downturn in the economy and the fact that the state cut $69,114 from the grants after the budget cycle had been completed in Newmarket.
He gave an overview of the annual three-day Heritage Festival and its multi-cultural flavor.
Finally he showed the development of the downtown and the continuing mill redevelopment and showed how the two are linked for the benefit of the future revitalization of the downtown.
