Message from Our Club President

The Durham-Great Bay Rotary Club was chartered in 1986. Our membership is comprised of men and women who strive to exemplify the Rotary Mission of "Service above Self" in their daily lives. We are an active group engaged in many local as well as international projects which offer our members opportunities to reach out to those who are in need.

We are proud to be very active in our community. Members are involved running the July 4th celebration, roadside clean-ups, scholarship programs, distribution of turkeys for the needy at holiday time, and providing boots and shoes for needy children. We organize hands-on projects that have built a storage shed for the library, repaired home roofs  for needy individuals, and  worked on projects at Camp Sunshine in Maine to name a few. We support local non-profit organizations such as Womenaid of Durham, On-Belay, and Bobcat Bolt whose missions contribute to the well-being of those in our community. We actively assist an "Interact" club at Oysrter River and Newmarket high schools, and a "Rotaract" club at UNH.

Internationally, we have helped outfit a pediatric cancer ward in a Cairo hospital, a pediatric hospital in rural Brazil, provided medical assistance to a rural community in Honduras, and, actively host young professional people from around the world as part of a Group Study Exchange. In coordination with all other Rotary International clubs, we are actively helping immunize children around the world to eradicate polio.

We also enjoy a strong fellowship among our members. The satisfaction one gets from working on a project with your fellow Rotarians is very special.  Rotarians share a uniting bond that extends to other clubs in our District 7780 and beyond.

The Rotary Club of Durham-Great Bay meets each Wednesday at 7:30 AM in the  Three Chimneys Inn on Newmarket Road in Durham.  If you are interested in learning more about us and Rotary, be my personal guest at any weekly meeting.

With warmest regards,

Jud Porter

President, 2010 - 2011
