John: The $20 registration fee for the District Assembly (covers meals) will be paid by the club.  We have at least 6 signed up so far.

Bill: In addition to the wreaths we'll be selling at the Home Show, he'll bring about 20 blue bird nesting boxes and auction off one, maybe two, Mr. Bragdons (the weathervane).

Ric: Reported on the board meeting last week: will submit an application for a District Grant for a community project by Jun 1st (Ric and Tom B will qualify the club); with the 4th of July Celebration on the schedule, QuackFest will be moved to the Fall; we'll meet with Dover Rotary to discuss their offer to integrate us into the Seacoast Bingo schedule as a fundraiser for us.

Program
Dean Carucci, CEO of Portsmouth Regional Hospital, spoke to us about the facility.  The hospital went into operation with 30 beds in 1895.  At some point, it expanded into what is now City Hall.  In 1980, HCA came in and built the first of their buildings on the current campus.

PRH is the only Level 2 trauma center in NH (Dartmouth is the only Level 1 trauma center here).  Economic impact (considering taxes paid, etc) in the community/state is $79 million annually.

Dean wanted to highlight one serious issue in the time he had with us.  Medical care in the US is facing a critical shortage of doctors and nurses: by 2025, we will be short 35,000 doctors and 400,000 nurses.  PRH, like the HCA system generally, is responding to this by exploring affiliations with Tufts, Harvard and Dartmouth medical schools to support residency programs thereby increasing the capacity of the system to produce doctors.
