  • “Breadbasket of Europe” very fertile soil, grapeseeds, soybeans

  • 1.1M Russian casualties

  • 200K Ukrainian casualties

  • US sending older military equipment (1973 artillery!)

  • Working with programs for children displaced by war. 

 

Announcements

  • We will need volunteers for the Festival in the Field on Saturday, September 27 from 12-
  • St. Thomas Moore is asking for 50 turkeys for Thanksgiving.  They are not doing Christmas baskets this year, but will be doing Easter baskets instead and will request hams for that.  

  • Chuck is waiting for more info about the bridge project from the Madbury Recreation.

  • Pints for Peace is November 8.  We will use this as our quarterly social.

  • Oyster River Community Read will be focusing on the book “The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World” by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.  We feel that this book will bring opportunities to strengthen our relationships both personally as well as throughout the community.  The book outlines 8 Pillars of Joy that we are planning to use as our central themes for community programming. We are looking forward to planning a community event at Powder Major in collaboration with Rotary. The kickoff event will be in February

  • Durham Conservation trust is looking for help with trails, more info should be coming next meeting.
