A Brief History

In June of 1986, with the blessing of the Rotary Club of Dover-Durham, Bill Skinner and Chris Hascall set out to form up a breakfast club for an area which would include Durham, Lee, Madbury and Newmarket.  Around a nucleus of Dover-Durham members, they attracted a sufficient number to petition District Governor Joe Hahn to seek a Rotary International charter for a club calling itself Durham-Great Bay.  The charter was signed in Evanston on December 2, 1986 and presented by the DG at Charter Night on January 24, 1987.  Twenty-six other clubs attended to welcome the new club to the district.  The original twenty-two members have since grown to fifty plus and are a microcosm of the community they serve.

Twenty-three presidents have led the club.  One charter member has served as District Governor.
