Community Service responds to the needs of the local community and is the avenue of service through which Rotarians fulfill their responsibility to find ways to improve the quality of life for those in their communities and to serve the public interest.  It provides Rotarians with the opportunity to exemplify the Rotary motto: Service Above Self.

Working with Friends Forever International - Durham, NH Campus

Friends Forever International is an independent 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that utilizes a grassroots approach to help youth from around the world build lasting friendships across cultural, religious and political divides. Serving as a liaison between U.S and international communities, we allow people of all backgrounds to participate first-hand in the international peace process.

Recently our Rotary Group has helped with projects at their Durham Campus.  This is an amazing group of individuals bringing teens from areas in conflict together to engage, laugh, stregthen lifelong skills and teambuilding and learn that we are all not so different from each other.  It has been a pleasure working with them and we hope to continue doing so for years to come.

With Community Toolbox leading the way, work was completed on a new garage at the campus and between Community Toolbox, Durham Great Bay Rotary and Friends Forever International new raised gardens have been added and we've been working on helping polich up the outside grounds at the campus over the summer of 2017.

Marina's Miles

Durham Great Bary Rotary is extremely proud to be a primary sponsor of Marina's Miles.  This 5K race held for the first time in Durham, NH will support scholarship opportunities for Oyster River High School students.  The race is run in memory of Marina Slavin, a beautiful young woman taken too soon from her family, friends and our community.

For more information see their web site: marinasmiles.org or their facebook page.

Every year Durham Great Bay Rotary helps all our community schools (Durham, Newmarket, Madbury and Lee) with a Boot and Shoe fund, providing the funds for local school administrators to provide certificates for a free pair of shoes where they see a need.

Haitian Health Foundation

In 2016 we were presented with a glimpse into the horrific conditions that the people in the community of Jeremy, Haiti have been facing since Hurricane Matthew ripped through their homes and towns. One of our members is associated with an amazing organization that helps to provide services and supplies at an established medical facility in Jeremy, volunteering and offering these services at no charge.  Not only do they help, but they teach local doctors and nurses how to better assist their community and the foundation provides jobs at the health center for the local community.  We were honored to be asked to help this great team and happy we had some funds to do so.  Just another great way any donations to our Rotary organization can help others.  Check out their web site to learn more!

Thanksgiving and Christmas of 2016 saw a greater need than ever for turkeys in our local churches and community food pantries to help supply local community members and families in need during the holidays. We were able to partner with the local Market Basket to get a phenomenal deal on the price of turkeys and fill the requested supply of turkeys for these local groups. Our members even picked up and delivered the turkeys to the organizations in need. Good job Rotarians! Gobble Gobble!
